FAQ – Granite Answers

What is granite, and can it chip?
Granite rocks are igneous rocks that are the hardest of all building stones. Granite has a very close grain, making it impervious to stains and uniquely suitable for any interior use. When polished, its high gloss finish will endure, even in harsh environments. Yes, granite can chip, but only in cases of severe abuse with heavy steel objects, but a chip can be filled with a granite & epoxy mixture.

Do you offer different types of edges?

Our polished, finished edges, which are included in our base price, are “eased and polished”, ¼ bull nose and ¼ bevels. These standard edge profiles maximize the bold appearance and quality of 3cm thick material. We offer upgraded edges, such as Ogee, ½ bull nose & Full bull nose for an additional charge. Please visit the "EDGES" page for a visualization of the edges offered.

Do you reconnect my electrical & plumbing?

J&J Granite is a highly trained and licensed contractor for granite countertops, but we are not licensed electricians or plumbers. We can recommend reputable and licensed individuals or companies, or you can hire one of your own chosing.

Will there be visible seams on my countertop?

At J&J Granite, we will always try to minimize the number of seams during layout. Most granite installations require at least one or more joints called seams. Our professional installers are also trained to minimize the appearance of the visible seams, by color matching the epoxy joint to the existing granite.

Can I set hot pots on my kitchen countertops?

Yes, granite is heat resistant, so you can place hot pots on the granite counter surface.

Can you give me a quotation over the phone?

We can give you a preliminary estimate, but an actual measurement of the intended coverage area is preferred, and will be necessary for an accurate estimate of the work to be performed.

    Can I buy a remnant if I don't require a full slab?

Of course you can. At J&J Granite and Marble, we have remnants in stock that we save for a need such as yours.

What forms of payment are required, and when?

We accept checks and credit cards, however there is a 2% service charge added to a credit card order. We ask that you pay half of the cost of the job up front, before we start cutting the stone. We require the balance at the time of installation.
